Viburnum shrubs, hedges, and trees are beautiful flowering plants that add beauty to garden landscapes. The four or five varieties available are similar and you’ll be pleased with any named form.

For fragrant flowers, the forms of twiggy and deciduous viburnum x bodnantense stand out.

Viburnum white flowers fragrant. Red/black fruit provides food for wildlife; Fragrant, small white, spring flowers; Korean spice viburnum, known botanically as viburnum carlesii, opens its fragrant flowers in early spring before the leaves appear.
The pink buds open to scented white flowers at any time from november to march and occasionally all the way through. The dense flower heads, which measure up to 3″ across, produce white flowers from blush pink buds, and the perfume, which is a sweet, rich, spicy vanilla, carries a considerable distance across a lawn or garden. My favorite cultivars are ‘cayuga’, a compact grower with pink buds, and ‘compactum’, which grows to only 3 feet tall and wide in 10 years. Viburnums vary in their height, spread, and style of flower but are similar in preferring sun to part shade and in being disease and pest resistant. When grown as a single trunk tree, it may reach a height of 30′.
'korean spice' viburnum is native to korea and japan but is an old southern favorite. Also known as korean spice viburnum, it has very fragrant pink buds that open to showy white snowball flowers. Frangipani plumeria alba, plumeria rubra:
Viburnum rhytidophylloides ‘allegheny’ dense and upright with fragrant white spring flowers followed by showy red fruit. They produce flowers that are sometimes extremely fragrant and sometimes downright nasty smelling. The blackhaw uniquely places it flowers above its leaves (while the flowers on many viburnums are nestled).
In late spring, large rounded snowballs, up to 5 in. Viburnums bloom in white in the last part of april through early may. It grows up to 6 feet tall.
There are over 150 species of viburnum, as well as countless cultivars. Fall color is a reddish purple. Plants tend to be leggy and best in a mixed borer where smaller plants can mask the bare stems.
Plant one or two where you take your springtime strolls. The flowers are formed in clusters that are three inches across. It’s a bushy shrub with very fragrant white flowers in spring and dark green leaves that darken to red in the fall.
Also known as viburnum awabuki; Blooms start as red buds that unfurl to reveal pink flowers that fade to white. Viburnum carlesii is one of the most gloriously fragrant shrubs known to man.
While most flowers are unscented, those that are fragrant are wonderfully so.
